Design, motion graphics, and so much more.

Hello! I’m Abby Bowser— I’m an artist and creative ready to explore anything and everything.

Pursuing design since 2017, I'm a creative based in Phoenix, Arizona. I've had the pleasure of working with groups such as Regions 1 & 2 T&T Gymnastics, artbyFORM, and AIGA at ASU, among others. To me, design is the cross-section of creativity and functionality. Before I am almtost anything, I am an artist-- and sometimes a stubborn one, at that. I'm always excited to try something new and have fun doing it.Interested in collaborating? Hey! I’m Abby.

I do a whole bunch of things.

-

I never stop exploring.

My whole life has been built around multimedia creation. I grew up making paper-and-glue crafts at the kitchen table before I graduated to an Ikea table in the (former) playroom of my childhood home. I've tried everything at least once-- drawing, painting, ceramics, coding, jewelrymaking, music, you name it. I have been swimming in ideas for as long as I've been able to put pencil to paper.

Edits led me to design.

Also called vids in some styles/circles, edits are a form of fan labor in which clips from a piece of media are cut up and organized to the beat of a song in order to tell a story. What began as Star Trek fans physically cutting together tape recordings of their favorite characters in the 1980s has become a cultural phenomenon across every social media platform in the 2020s.

Making edits was my favorite hobby for many years. It combines music, video, storytelling, and beloved media-- everything I love to do, all in one. It introduced me to Adobe After Effects, and After Effects led me to a VCD education and into my career. If only I could go back in time and tell my 14 year-old self all about it!

Everything is connected.

Editing aside, my personal passions lie especially with writing, gymnastics, and electronic music. I grew up doing (or consuming) all three, sometimes in tandem.

I'd be coming up with stories in-between trampoline routines to work on when I got home, or compiling all my favorite songs into a playlist when my coach would allow us to use the gym speakers. I taught my teammates the alphabet from Madeon's Adventure (2015) and told them about projects I was writing. I always share my passions with people tenfold. I'm excited to share them with you, too!

I'm happy to be here!

Nothing is more important to me than having fun and being a good person. We are, in some sense, what we put out into the world; whether it's a word, a design, a story, or something else entirely, I want it to be good. Successful or high-quality is an added bonus, I suppose-- but good, more than anything. I am lucky to be alive at a time like this, so I owe it to myself and others to make the most of who I am and what I have.

Let's Work Together!

I'm happy to get involved in almost any discipline of creativity there is, big or small.

Program Book

Layout & Book Design

A physical compilation of all ASU VCD 2nd and 3rd year work, all at the cross-section of layout design, copywriting, and typography. The book is 8" x 8", case-bound, 80 lb. satin finish paper with a glossy hardcover.

Measure Twice, Cut Once is a testament to not only two years of hard work, but about the willingness to fail and pick oneself back up again. The full PDF version is available here.

Earth To Moon

Currency Redesign

A redesign of two paper bills of U.S. currency, paired with a corresponding credit/debit card design. Each bill requires certain irreproducible features that would, hypothetically, make it easy to spot fraudulent ones.

When it comes to pursuit of the cosmos, the United States often takes first place. It is a well-loved wonder of the United States, as are the beautiful landscapes down on the surface.

Makejoy Studio

Design Internship

A variety of collateral for a 2-month long internship with Jennifer Testamarck, a brand & web designer and the owner of Makejoy Studio.

My main responsibility was to assemble cohesive sets of mockups and moodboards for various Makejoy-designed brands, creating a library of collateral for Jenn to share with prospective clients. Additional assets (business cards, flyers, letterheads, etc) were created as needed.

Event Branding

A visual identity submitted for ASU VCD's annual Senior Exhibition, held each spring to showcase the senior student body's capstone research.

The design must be representative of both the senior class and visual communication itself, as well as something that can easily be translated to other supporting graphics (web headers, merchandise, and so on). Discussions emphasizes that, while good design is crucial, the way we talk about it with one another is just as important.

Twofold Records

Branding & Logo Design

After drawing two random characters from a hat, a logo, signature, and supporting collateral were designed, along with a ten-second animation.

Twofold Records is a record label emphasizing collaboration and placing an artist’s music in front of real audiences-- hence, increasing their reach twofold.

Motion Graphics

Animation & Motion Design

A selection of motion graphics designed for internship, academic, and personal projects. Each one pays special attention to dynamics, constant motion, and movement that reflects the brand.

An extended version of my Demo Reel (right), with full-length clips of each project shown, can be found here.
